Themba was born in Eshowe which is a small town in rural Kwa-Zulu Natal. He later lived in Pietermaritzburg. He attended an agricultural school situated in Mooi River and after matriculating, his parents could not afford to send him to a tertiary institution to further his studies. As a result, he decided to work while studying.
He joined R-Group Management (which owns the Rhino Cash and Carry retail group) as a Creditors Clerk. He was then promoted to Cellphone Department Manager and, later Development Coordinator. Themba then joined the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) where he worked as a Project Manager.
During the time that he worked, Themba studied for a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Science from UNISA. After he had completed his degree, he resigned from the IEC to serve his articles at the Auditor General. He had to a take a +-75% salary cut while serving his articles.
While serving his articles, due to his exemplary and exceptional leadership skills, Themba was elected on two occasions to be the Gauteng Trainee Auditor Forum (TAF) Chairperson. In addition, he was also elected as the Deputy National TAF Chairperson and finally as the National TAF Chairperson.
The Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) is known to be a challenging course in and of itself, and during the course of the year that he completed his CTA, Themba experienced additional challenges. One of his favourite uncles had passed away and his father was terminally ill and later passed on in that year. Despite the challenges he encountered, Themba was one of the Top 25 best academically performing students in the Auditor General nationally. He passed all his board exams first attempt. Today, Themba is a Chartered Accountant with a passion for African development.
He designed and formulated the first CA trainee learnership guide for the AGSA. Whilst in the AGSA he audited, amongst others, the City of Johannesburg (COJ), which is the largest municipality in South Africa, which provides services to over 4.5 million people. Other audits included the Department of Health, Gauteng Growth and Development Agency, the Department of Roads and Transport, Westonaria and Randfontein Municipalities' and a variety of State Owned Entities.
He has a total of 13 years' experience working in the private and public sector, 9 of which have been in a management position. His experience is mainly derived from working for Constitutional Institutions, whose mandate is to strengthen constitutional democracy. He also served as AGSA A-Manager Forum Chairperson. He was part of the team that founded and led the AGSA Leadership Academy. He was the founder and first chairperson of the AGSA Men's Forum.
In 2016 he founded Imani HT which is a multidisciplinary accounting, auditing, strategy, taxation and business solutions consultancy firm. He is also Head of Accounting at Dunamis Consulting.
Themba is a gifted speaker and motivational coach with a unique ability to communicate complex matters in a simple manner with original humour. Themba has a passion for inspiring others and he believes he has a calling to help others realise their true potential to reach the stars. He uses basic and simple methods to appeal to the hearts and minds of his audience and his messages have a Christian ethos.
His speaking abilities are largely inspired by his church background and he has spoken at numerous schools and universities, imbizos, government and private corporate functions and civil organisations.
